sorry, scripts do not inherit the environment.  You need to hack the scripts. 
Have a file in /etc/defaults/ called something like 'myenv' and in it set all
the variables you need.  Then in your scripts just do '. /etc/defaults/myenv'. 
This way they are all in one place.
