increase # of SLIP interfaces on linux 2.2

anyone know where i could find info on how to do this?

i am using vpnd for a lot of vpn connections. one system
running 2.2.19 is maxxed out at 7 slip interfaces. if
i try to bring more up it can't do it. just spits back a
socket error.

on a 2nd system running a newer build of 2.2.19 i am limited
to 1 slip interface. any attempts to make more results in
socket errors.

i browsed through drivers/net/slip.c and slip.h but wasn't
able to identify the specific paramter to change to give
more slip interfaces or if it is even possible.

i plan to replace vpnd eventually just haven't had a chance
yet.

any ideas?
