One thing that tripped me up for a while is that you have to compile all
of the framebuffer stuff into the kernel as opposed to modules, since it
is needed early in the boot process.

I believe that I'm correct in stating that 'vga' corresponds to various
text modes, and 'video' corresponds to framebuffer modes.
