a quick search reveals:

there was a debian developer(the official one i think) that
used to have potato debs as well. but looks like they have
been removed. i haven't tried the above debs, the only issues
i encountered with using X4 on potato was a few apps thought they
depended on X v3 libs, i edited the status file and changed their
dependencies and put them on hold and the "problems" went away.
