A safe approach whereby , I can have Debian on a Windows partition , sans data loss
Could somebody please advice me on a safe approach whereby , I can have Debian on a
Windows partition , sans data loss . ie : I want both the OSes , for different
reasons .
Can somebody who has done a similar thing , please outline what steps are to be taken
to this end , such that it is 100% certain that no data loss will ever occur.
I am planning to clear off the 'E:' of Windows (I am having an 8.44 GB HDD)
Perhaps , I need to explain why I am not repartitioning .
The reason I am not going for a repartitioning spree is :-
1. I tried fips , it does not help to divide the 'C:' into 2 , even after an
exhaustive defragmentation.
2. I need all the data I have on all the drives.(1 Primary and the rest Logical)
This is approximately what my disk looks like (data exists on all drives) :-
1. My 'C:' , or shall I technically say , in my case , this is the only primary
partition shows 4 GB approx (I have a minimalist Linux running on my box. , and this
is what cfdisk shows ).
2. 'D:' is 1.47 GB
3. I have a partition for Linux containing the contents of RedHat CD .This is
hidden to Windows and shows 300 or so MB
4. The 'E:' , I was speaking about shows approx. 3GB .
5. The 'F:' has 125 MB , and it is before this that you have the Linux partition
(that I have not done mkfs.ext2 on).
Thanks for any help,
