Here is the first 4 or 5 lines before the error:
preparing to replace diffstat 1.27-1 (using
.../diffstat_1.28-1_i386.deb)
unpacking replacement diffstat ...
errors were encountered while processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/balsa-0.9.8-1.0.pre5-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned a error code
