| "find -name pcmcia" shows /lib/modules/2.2.18/pcmcia
This is a directory.

There is no "pcmcia" module. There is, however, a collection of
modules that provide support for various PCMCIA devices. The laptop
that I have to use has an Intel i82365 PCMCIA bridge. It also has a
3Com NIC, it uses the 3c59x Vortex driver.
What is your pcmcia bridge? ('lspci') What is your NIC?
