Generally, ntpd is prefered, but there is overhead involved. When
running ntpd, you always have the ntp daemon running, for example,
which amounts to over 4mb's on my machine. If you're not terribly
concerned with keeping your clock totally accurate, running ntpdate
once a day (or so) from cron may be best. Even then your machine
shouldn't really get more than a second or so off... which is not
usually a problem when your not running public internet services.
