Does rogers give you a dynamic ip?  Do you need to supply a hostname?
The list needs more information before we can point you in the right
direction.  In essence you're going to do these steps:

1.  Get your network card working.  (Kernel module fun)
2.  Get your cable modem to sync to the signal (Hardware issues that we
can't solve)
3.  Get a firewall in place (I'd say this step should never be optional
for a direct connection)
4.  Harden your system to remove at least telnetd and protect portmapper
and rpc.statd with tcpd for only internal hosts.
5.  Get your interfaces file configured for the correct way to get an ip
address from rogers.
6.  Enjoy.
