I don't use diald, so I can't tell you offhand exactly what the files are called, but... Look in /etc/rc2.d/ for a file called (something like) S50diald (though the number may be different. It should be a link to /etc/init.d/diald (or similar). You can rename the link to K50diald (but keep the numeric value the same). Next time you boot, diald won't start.
