Not really.

The problem has been reported and there's an open bug #64365.  I've also
seen related issues with printing -- I'm getting boxes rather than text
on all printed output under Abiword 0.9.0-0.1 (on testing).

I know the maintainer and am forwarding him a message (it's not Darren,
BTW).
