I purchased a Plextor 12/10/32 rewritable IDE-CD and can only say good
about it. If you're planning on burning CDs (sounds like you might have
lots of videos), get one with BURN-Proof. Of the 50+ CDs I've burned, I
haven't had one coaster! It's definitely worth the extra cash.

Most (if not all) modern motherboards and CD players should support booting
from the CD.
