Can it be done?  Sure, nothing is impossible. (*)

Do I bother to do it?  Nay.  I won't.

Should you do this?  Probably not since you are asking this as question.
Installing system in chroot may be interesting intelectual challenge,
though...

(*) I hear peple installing unstable-debian in chroot environment of
stable-debian.  Same can be done :-)  After copying configurations from
old system, you may be ready to go with debian.
