this is most likely due to a combination of a faulty DNS entry and
reverse zone mapping, together with the PARANOID line in
/etc/hosts.deny.

what is the output of

  host <your hostname, i.e. the source of the connection>

then, if you get an IP back (which you should), does

  host <that IP>

point back to the hostname? if not, then this is the error.

tried checking out /var/log/auth.log lately?
