Just did reboot and here is what my dmesg shows 
Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M
FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077

Boots fine except my OSS doesn't sork and they don't have thr 2.4.6
version aavilable, yet.

So I agree, the network is where you need to look.
