initrd problem

I just tried the following:
- build a kernel (2.4.5 with LVM patched to the latest beta version)
  with CRAMFS support,
- create an initrd image using mkinitrd,
- boot the new kernel using GRUB.

The boot process proceeds until the kernel tries to mount the ramdisk
image. The last message shown is:
RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM disk image starting at 0.

I looked at the kernel source, and I found that the initrd code does
not recognize a cramfs file system.

Is there a specific patch for this?

Thanks in advance
