OK, I need some help

I must have installed Debian 2.2_r2 at least a dozen
times on different PC's w/o any problems until now.

I have a system that has no network, only a dialup
connection to an ISP. I can't ping anything. I've
checked my pppconfig (and chat scripts) and all looks
OK. I tried wvdial, again all looks OK. I checked
my /etc/resolv.conf file and my ISP's nameserver
addresses are there and OK. Both wvdial and pon both
connect OK, but I can't ping anything. Anyone have
any suggestions as to what to look for now?
