I had a bunch of font problems after an upgrade of unstable, which
ultimately had to do with the fact that my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
didn't know how to deal with the font server. I ended up adding
Section "Files"
FontPath "unix/localhost:7100"
EndSection
to the above config file and it all started working again.
The problem is, what I know about X and fonts (and all matters
graphical) would rattle in a nutshell. Still, it might be worth a
try...

P.S. Anybody know a good introduction for beginners to this whole area
(i.e., fonts, character sets, and graphical displays)?
