What address did you subscribe with? Let's say it was foo@example.com.
Did you try sending a message with the subject
"unsubscribe foo@example.com" to debian-user-request@lists.debian.org?
You should be able to send that from anywhere, and should get an
acknowledgement sent to foo@example.com when you do so. If there's a
problem, the acknowledgement should describe it.
