for potato?  You need to upgrade a few other packages as well before you can 
run 2.4 on potato (modutils, etc.) You can get kernel binaries using this apt 
line:

deb http://people.debian.org/~bunk/debian potato main 

then just do update/upgrade and you will have everything you need to be ready 
for 2.4.  I would build it myself, but you can go here to browse through the 
available kernel images ... he's built quite a few already.
