I saw that email in the archive. I had the same problem. The solution was to
be a little more humble and switch to 16 bit color depth.
Change the line 
DefaultDepth    24
to
DefaultDepth    16
in the XF86Config.

I am having an impossible time trying to make my SiS 6326 AGP card
(with 8MB of VRAM) work with the Debian unstable distribution (XFree86
4.0.2).  When I run "startx" with the attached XF86Config-4, it says
the following:

Fatal server error:
AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0
