Does ppp modify IP packets ?
Hi there,
How is it possible ?
I have a mail server based on potato r2. Everything works well.
When I boot system with 2.4.0 kernel works well *nearly* everything.
Ipop daemon workin well if a user is connecting by LAN. When the same user
connects
by modem to his internet provider and then to my server I found in auth.log
PAM_unix: authentication failure; (uid=0) -> **unknown** for pop service
ipop3d: Login user=bogus host=c1.ppp.bogus.com
ipop3d: Command stream end of file while reading line user=bogus
host=c1.ppp.bogus.com
And users' clients say something like 'no connections to pop server'.
Let's summarize: No problem if kernel is 2.2.18 or connection is made
without modem.
What is it ? Does ppp protocol modify contens of IP packet ?!?!
An error in 2.4.0 kernel ? So why, for instance, sendmail and bind working
well on 2.4.0
and there is no distinguish of way of connecting ?
Any comments, advices, suggestions or anything which can help.
I realy don't understand a bit of this.
Best regards
Chris
