now THAT's an interesting suggestion!

just for fun, i moved the speaker OFF of the mouse cable, and
voila, no more tick/buzz! it WAS electromagnetic induction.
whodathunkit?

after a bit of tinkering, i realized (after the fact) that most
of the noise was from the one speaker near/on the mouse cord.
<blush>heh, heh.</blush>

i'm feeling much better, now.
