Try runnin 'strace' to see what system calls are run immediately prior
to the segfault.  Might be a corrupted file somewhere.

Download the appropriate package (e.g.:  ftp, wget), and install with
dpkg.  If this bombs....  :-(   Write back (to list, not me).
