SLIP howto.  Might also look at parallel port (PLIP) connection.  Both
need a null cable, aka "crossover" or "laplink".  Should be available
from your favorite electronic products supplier.  Details for
configuration in the Network Administrator's Guide (AKA NAG), also in
various networking-related HOWTOs.

Modern laptops might also offer IR networking <g>.
