I am using Debian with DSL. Setting it up was as easy as installing
a second ethernet card, hooking everything up, editing
/etc/network/interfaces and running '/etc/init.d/networking restart'.
This is with a static IP. With DHCP or PPPOE, it would be a bit more
involved.

I am using a 10 Mb NE2000 clone (~$5.00 ea.) in each of my machines,
with a $5.95 BNC cable from Radio Shack and a $2.00 termination at each
end. It's expandable without needing to buy a hub. Cheap, works great.
SLIP will do 115 kb if the serial cards have 16550AN UARTs (less if
they do not).
