ext2 supports large files, (> 2GB) as well as filesystems much larger
then that too, i think the upper limits are something ridiculous in
the terabyte range.  however on 32bit archetectures such as intel you
are limited to 2GB filesizes.  kernel 2.4 hacks around this limitation
somehow but you need to recompile glibc with 2.4 headers to enable
it.  you can also get a 64bit archetecture such as ultrasparc or alpha
and have large file support under 2.2.
