mutt and exim (failure to send with smtp)

How do I configure mutt to use a remote smtp server?

Currently I have exim running on my machine, but if exim forwards mail to
my ISP's smtp server, I always get the following error message:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. The following address(es) failed:

  xxx@xxxxxx.xxx:
    SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<xxx@xxxxx.xxx>:
    host smtp.mweb.co.za [196.2.53.139]:
    550 5.7.1 Invalid host:
    skami.mweb.co.za - authoritative host not found:
    xxx@xxxxxxx.xxx


When I use pine, I simply set the smtp server to my ISP's server and it
works fine.
