See list archives for standard recommendations for starting
GNU/Linux and Unix books. _Running Linux_ and _Linux in a Nutshell_ are
my two starters.

For dinosaurs making the transition, there's a reasonably good (but
expensive) text called _Unix and MVS_, which does a reasonably good nice
job of mapping concepts of one OS to the other. There are many
architectural difference between the two systems, and understanding
points of difference and commonality is very helpful.

I'd also strongly recommend Kernighan and Pike's _The UNIX Programming
Environment_, again, , a good architectural guide to all that is
GNU/Linux (well, verso a decade and a half and of fairly substantial
implementation diffeences and a persistant misspelling of "GNU/Linux" as
"Unix" <g>).

What part of "Gestalt" don't you understand? There is no K5 cabal
