cool. so i suppose <dunce mode> that somehow i restarted named/bind
when i'd tinkered with the tunl0 gadget?</dunce mode>

i don't recall having done so, but considering
	lsof | grep 1.2.3.4
you'd think i'd've concluded that on my own. (duh indeed!)
