I had no luck getting WP to run under Slink. Some of my notes should
be in the archive for this group; I'm attaching my first message to
the WP8 "support" Corel mailing list below. There are a number of
libraries that must be installed: xlib6, libc5, & xpm4.7 are the ones
most often mentioned as not present and thus the source of problems.
In the end i decided to write it off as a problem with my video driver
which was some SuSE contribution to the XFree project that hadn't been
incorporated into the Slink package. I think that conclusion was
motivated by some comment i saw on this list.
My install with Potato was flawless, and I'm pleased with WP8 over the
Star Office version i have (the version before acquisition by
Sun). (Note that the problematic video driver had been incorporated
into Potato.) AbiWord seems pretty cool, too; if you can't solve
the WP problem, try that.
Good luck,
judith

Subject: Word Perfect fails Debian Slink install with libraries
Body: I'm running a straight Slink Debian system with the Y2K upgrades.
I
definitely have xlib6, libc5, & xpm4.7 installed. I can't seem to
get
my CD version of Word Perfect 8 to install. The graphical
interface
fails, the character-based install *claims* to install the
program, yet
never asks for a path to place the program in. The 'installed'
binaries,
found in the listed directories below off the root directory, give
seg
faults.
Following is a list of the created directories and a script of the
installation (with lots of control characters, but not all,
removed).
TIA for your suggestions,
cheers,
judith

(Someone was confused by the final "Sun Dec," which was the beginning
of the script datestamp: Sun[day] Dec[ember]... Personally a Sun DEC
system seems kinda scary to contemplate.)
