Could you provide a more detailed description of just where in the
process this is occuring?  If possible, save your output to a file and
attach the *relevant* portions of this to your mail.

It sounds as if dselect is failing in the install stage, and that one or
more packages may have successfully installed.  If just one package has
problems, you may want to un-select it.

With Debian, simple installations are often easier than more complex
ones -- select a minimal installation if possible.

The command:

    dselect install 2>&1 | tee /tmp/dselect.log

...will save a log to the file /tmp/dselect.log
