You didn't mention which distribution or kernel you're running.  If
you're running Potato or Woody, there's a bit of footwork involved in
getting XFree86 4.0.x, but it's doable.  If you're running Sid, you
should already be running XFree86 4.0.2-RC.  Once you're running XFree86
4, you should get a 2.2.18 kernel, and compile it with DRI support. 
After that, you should be able to grab the libglide3 packages from Woody
and get games to work out of the box.  I can provide more assistance,
but you'll have to do a lot of footwork and be more specific about your
needs.
