Relax. woody is no longer unstable; it is testing, the idea being
that a "slushy" distribution is easier to freeze.
Quick summary:
potato aka stable: The same rock-solid Debian you've come to know and
love.
woody aka testing: A little less stable than "stable", you get newer
stuff while still being much more solid than any other Linux
distribution except Debian stable and Slackware. :) (In other words,
there shouldn't be any really big bugs in this.)
sid aka unstable: This is the bleeding-edge distribution you sound like
you want. But be warned, stuff is prone to breakage.
For more information on this, try reading a couple back issues of Debian
Weekly News at debian.org.
