depmod question

i *just* downloaded and compiled 2.4.0-12 for the very first time.   after
my very first reboot with this kernel, i'm getting:

# depmod -a
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.0-test12/kernel/drivers/scsi/imm.o


i'm curious - i compiled this kernel by the book.  what is causing this
message and what is the fix?
