compiling mpg123 with esd support

Hi gang,

For some reason, xmms is these days taking up an inordinate amount of
CPU time. I decided to go back to mpg123 and gqmpeg, which is a lot less
fancy, but doesn't even make a dent in the cpu usage.

I use (helix) gnome and esd for my sound, so I decided that I sould get
download the source of mpg123 and compile it with esd support. AFAIK,
debian (potato, at least) does not include esd support in mpg123.

Anyway, using the latest mpg123 source, and doing a `make linux-esd',
I'm getting the following error:

audio_esd.o: In function `audio_open':
audio_esd.o(.text+0x18e): undefined reference to `esdserver'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [mpg123] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/damon/working/mpg123-0.59r'
make[1]: *** [mpg123-make] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/damon/working/mpg123-0.59r'
make: *** [linux-esd] Error 2

I'm not sure exactly what dev packages I need to compile it, but the
likely suspects (libesd0-dev & libaudiofile-dev) are installed.

Anyone have any comments or suggestions?

cheers,

damon
