gdm + Gnome problem

	Thisis strange.

I had Gnome set up in .xsession in my home directory, and whn I loged in all
went well. decided to try gdm, so I did an apt-get install gdm. rebooted, and
lo and behold I had a fancy Z login screen. Typed in mu user ID and password,
waited a while. The background never changed colors, and the bottom menu bar
	poped up, and then disappeared!

Did an apt-get install xdm, reboot, and all works fine again.

Any idea what could be wrong here?
