Re: Xfree 4

  /etc/X11/app-defaults

AFAIK all the packages that put stuff into misplaced app-defaults
should be fixed, s of now their app-default stuff is ignored (at least
that's what the message says).

  possible solution:

  (cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11; tar -cvf app-defaults.tar app-defaults)
  (cd /etc/X11; tar -xvf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults.tar)
  rm -r /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults
  ln -s /etc/X11/app-defaults /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults

would this work long term or would the not-fixed-yet packages change
link to directory again?
