why no DRI for G400 in X4 (was: Re: why no DRI for G200 in X4)

Is there anything else that can cause DRI to fail?
I don't see any error messages in /var/log/XFree86.0.log. drm/DRI
seem to install fine, but then inside the X session, no DRI...

I am using a VIA chipset motherboard with a 733MHz P-III, 384MB
RAM, a Matrox G400 DH, an Hauppauge WinTV Theater (works fine with
XF4), a Soundblaster Live, and DEC Tulip based network card.

I tried going to a lower resolution to see, whether the problem was
memory related (normal startup is 1824x1440x16bpp@72Hz; reduced it
to 1280x1024x16bpp), but that didn't help either.

If someone's interested in the XFree86.0.log output, I made it
available at http://icemark.ch/~beh/XFree86.0.log. If any further
info is required, just mail me and I'll try and come up with it.

Also, some other thing I noticed, libGLU seems to be missing a
symbol:

	beh@fenun:~ $ xlock -mode morph3d
xlock: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libGLU.so.1: undefined symbol: glTexImage3D

Or - do I maybe have a library problem here?
[All packages are from a Debian woody, mirrored of debian.org last night]
