  Too late now but for future reference.

apropos keyboard
(deleted those that don't apply)
showkey (1)          - examine the codes sent by the keyboard

man showkey
"showkey prints to standard output either the scan codes or
 the  keycode  or the `ascii' code of each key pressed.
              
Isn't Linux great!  When you know how to ask it a question, it knows
how to answer.
