It's not in the same subnet but works when I add a route of .. route add
-net 0.0.0.0 netmask 0.0.0.0 dev eth0 metric 1.

But I think you are right when it comes to the interfaces file just asking
for gateway= xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. I've always had to put in the whole route
statement. but now it just skips it.
Anyone know what file I can include the above route statement so it will
load on bootup?
