To be precise:

 1) Add these lines to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
      deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US unstable/non-US main contrib non-free

to tell Debian you want to look at woody (the unstable release area).

 2) Update your package database to the latest list:

      # apt-get update

 3) Download, install, and configure:

      # apt-get dist-uprade

If you're cautious, you can use "apt-get -s dist-upgrade" to see
what would happen without doing anything.

I got a CD for Debian 2.0. Ever since, I've upgraded _all_ of it via
the net. It Just Works.

If you're used to, for example, Red Hat, Debian is a whole other
experience.
