Setting up a mail server, looking for some recommendations.
Hey all.
Fresh from my conquering of the TrinityOS firewall, the Right(tm) way of
compiling a kernel into a .deb (thanks Simon!), and getting file/print
sharing (mostly) setup, I now want to tackle a mail server.
I have an ADSL link @home (not through @Home, however), and I have my own
domain. Right now, all mail to my domain gets dumped in my e-mail box
(except for a few users private mail, no big deal there). What I'd like is
to use fetchmail and procmail to get and filter my mail and to bounce
incorrect e-mail addresses properly. This would also have the added
benefit of having all my mail located in one place, so if I go on vacation
for a week, I can just telnet to my local box and read my mail just like
always (more on that in a minute, however).
I'd also like it to be setup as an SMTP gateway for my local network. I
need an SMTPD of some description to allow local mail anyway, and right now
I have the debian standard-issue Exim installed.
I'm wondering if I should stick with exim (I know nothing about it), or
switch to QMail (which I've researched, and setup once upon a time).
As an bonus question, I like to read my mail primarily using Eudora on a
Windows box (Blasphemy, I know, but I like the interface), and I was
wondering if it would be possible to have Eudora reading a local mail box
(the same ones I'd use with elm), or would that cause a problem with
Eudora, since things will be going in and out of those mailboxes without
it's knowledge.
