...escape is "^]" -- <ctrl>-] (the right square brace, should be above
and right of your quote/doublequote key).
Telnet needs to reserve ^Z for the remote session.
Similarly, you'll find that ssh reserves ^Z, and the escape sequence for
an ssh session is "~^Z" ("tilde" plus <ctrl>-Z keystroke).
