make-kpkg

hi 

i'm in the process of making kernel-2.2.15.  how do i use make-kpkg?
to i have to run make menuconfig first or will make-kpkg walk me
through the kernel configuration?  do i have to issue a separate
make-kpkg command to make the modules?
