Isn't the config file the same "/etc/X11/XF86Config"?  If it is, you should be able
to replace the entire monitor section from  'Section "Monitor"' to 'EndSection' of
your debian XF86Config with the one from mandrake. If that doesn't cure it start
comparing the video card settings.
