"libX11.a"?

hi all

thanks to the help of Mariano Suarez Alvarez and david vogler's page @
http://lisas.de/~david/tsp4270/index.php3#SVGA, I've finally got X to
recognise my video card ... yay ... however, the installation script for the
patched S3 Savage Server is telling me that I don't have XFree86 installed
(i have 3.3.6-6).

The error's generated by the first line of the installation script which
check's to see if the file "/etc/X11R6/lib/libX11.a" exists ... it doesn't
on my system ... although I do have "libX11.so, libX11.so.6 & libX11.so.6.1"
in the same directory. I was hoping somebody might know where the file comes
from, or what it does?

I did of course just try installing the server manually, and although it
recognises my card, all I get is a blank screen ... the output follows (if
it helps @ all?!!?).

thanks again ... Andrew
