Don't know if I'm getting something wrong here, but all you need to do
is have X read from gpm's fifo, i.e.
In /etc/X11/XF86Config:
Section "Pointer"
Protocol "MouseSystems"
Device "/dev/gpmdata"
...
EndSection
In /etc/gpm.conf:
device=/dev/psaux
type=ps2
responsiveness=
append1="-R" # -R for repeat/echo to /dev/gpmdata
If you don't start gpm from the stock /etc/init.d/gpm script, just
make sure you add "-R" to the command line.
