installation problem

Hi!
I'm new to Debian and I have followed the short 
installation guide and everythings works well untill 
I'm asked to change to the second virtual console and 
mount the cdrom with "mount -t iso9660 -o 
ro /dev/hdc /cdrom". I don't get the confirmation but 
the cdrom is mounted (I can see the contents with "cd" 
to the different directories). Now I change to the 
first virtual console (Alt+F1) but there is nothinging 
there just the possibility to log in one more time.
According to the instructions I shall now highligt 
the "Update menu" but I can't find it.
I'm sure it's just a stupid misunderstanding but please 
help me.
