Are there a staging area for alsa 0.5.x packages and/or are they being
developed? Is alsa orphaned or does it have some issues that prevent its
packaging? The current version in unstable is 0.4.1i, which is two months
old (1999-12-20)...

If the developer in question doesn't have enough time, I could start
helping him to maintain the package -- I'm not a developer, but I know how
to create and maintain packages.
